Accomplishments and best practices – these were the highlights of reports at the beginning of the Department of Public Works and Highways – Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s (DPWH-ARMM) 26th Outbound Staff Meeting with the Maguindanao 2nd District Engineering Office.
Spearheaded by Regional Secretary Engr. Don Mustapha Loong, the meeting convenes officials and staff from the eight different District Engineering Offices of ARMM’s five provinces namely: Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. It is also attended by the division chiefs of DPWH-ARMM’s regional office.
On its first day, the Maguindanao Second District Engineering Office led by Engr. Zainal Mlok, Jr. laid out the accomplishments his office achieved in terms of implementing infrastructure developments.
“The biggest accomplishment that we have is making use of google map to help our stakeholders identify all paved and unpaved roads in the Second District of Maguindanao, through the use of E-ARMM” Engr. Mlok said.
He also considers as an achievement the coherent presentation of several reports, lauded and considered as one of the best practices his office sets as example to other DEOs.
When it comes to instilling this practice to his staff, Engr. Mlok said it is basically doing the task that each position defines. “We impart in their minds that it’s not a one man army and that their task is part of something big. If they are not able to do it, then the accomplishment of the whole team is also affected. It’s really about team effort,” he said.
Aside from the DEO’s accomplishments, project status, issues, concerns and challenges were also discussed during the meeting.
Nonetheless, Engr. Mlok assures that they are still working on the progress of their DEO, focusing mainly on enhancing the knowledge of their engineers in handling projects that are implemented by contract.
The Outbound Staff Meeting is a four-day event which also aims to recognize project gaps that are to be included in the department’s target budget.
