COTABATO CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is set to formally open two of three modular bridges it recently completed in the southernmost island province of Tawi-Tawi, officials said recently.
Engr. Emil K. Sadain, DPWH-ARMM secretary, said that the new projects, worth some P327 million, form part of the bridge program of President Benigno S. Aquino III aimed at spurring conveyance, trade and commerce in Tawi-Tawi’s geographically scattered areas.
The amount also covered civil works and a road linking the bridges in Bongao, the capital town of Tawi-Tawi, and Panglima Sugala island municipality. All three bridges span 172 meters in length. Workers said that under the watch of Engr. Sadain, works “have been smooth and speedy” in the autonomous region.
Sadain said that the third bridge was “nearing completion” while the two others have been completed and inaugurated yesterday by ARMM caretaker-Governor Mujiv Hataman, Mindanao Development Authority Sec. Luwalhati Antonino, and DPWH Sec. Rogelio Singson. (Ali G. Macabalang)
